Fairfax County is home to a variety of organizations that offer leadership roles for women. From the Fairfax County Democratic Committee (FCDC) Steering Committee to the Community Engagement and Domestic Violence (CEDV) team, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and make a difference. The FCDC Steering Committee is the central organization that coordinates the work of the County, District, and Standing Committees.
It is composed of all the elected officials of the County Committee, the chairs of the nine district committees, the chairs of the standing committees and caucuses, the highest-ranking officials of the three Democratic congressional district committees with boundaries within Fairfax County (8, 10 and 11), a representative of the Fairfax Young Democrats, the immediate former president of the FCDC, and any member of the State Central Committee who is also a member of the FCDC. The president or vice president must be members of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors or members of Fairfax County Senior Management. The CEDV team works to bring together high-level public officials and community leaders to advise the Board of Supervisors on a variety of policy, legislative, and programmatic issues regarding domestic violence. At the end of a term (of three years), positions will rotate and the leadership role that had been filled by a county leader will be filled by a leader of a nonprofit organization, and the position that had been held by a leader of a nonprofit organization will be filled by a county leader. Mason Honors students have also developed recommendations for Leadership Fairfax and Mason Honors College that describe a partnership inspired by the Community Service Project component of their Emerging Leaders Institute. During the fall and spring semester, student teams plan, organize, and execute a selected project for the benefit of a local community organization and its stakeholders.
The team surveyed nonprofit organizations that benefited from these teams since 2002 to capture their impact on Fairfax County. All candidates must be residents of Fairfax County and have the necessary individual and community experience to fulfill their roles. The team also created a resource guide for Langley that will allow counselors who are not familiar with Fairfax County and NoVa to help those they serve take advantage of their community. They researched areas of job needs and opportunities in Washington DC and Alexandria and mapped them out in relation to public transportation. Members must reside or attend school in and around Fairfax County, including the District of Columbia area. These organizations organize events, campaign for candidates, and operate throughout the year to organize on behalf of the Democratic Party.
